Reading exercises from class 5

  • Verb to be + Noun = ဖြစ်သည်
    • e.g., ကျွန်တော်သည် ဆရာတစ်ဦး ဖြစ်သည်။ I am a teacher.
  • Verb to be + Adjective = သည်
    • e.g., သူတို့သည် ပိန်ကြသည်။ They are thin.
  • Verb to be + V-ing = ပြုနေသည်
    • e.g., သူသည် ကစားနေသည်။ He is playing.
  • Verb to be + Prepositional Phrase = ရှိသည် (တစ်နေရာရာမှာ ရှိသည်)
    • e.g., သူသည် ဥယျာဥ်ထဲမှာ ရှိသည်။ He is in the garden.
  • There + Verb to be + Subject + Prepositional Phrase = ရှိသည်
    • e.g., အိုးထဲမှာ ရေရှိသည်။ There is water in the pot.
  • Verb to Have vs Verb to Be
    • e.g., သူတို့မှာ အိမ်တစ်လုံး ရှိသည်။ They have a house.
    • e.g., ခွေးသည် သစ်ပင်အောက်မှာ ရှိနေသည်။ The dog is under the tree.
  • Verb to Do
    • Examples below:
      • It does not run. ၎င်းသည် မပြေးပါ။
      • I do not like like tea. ကျွန်တော်သည် လက်ဖက်ရည် မကြိုက်ပါ။
      • Did you play football yesterday? သင်တို့သည် မနေ့က ဘောလုံးကစားခဲ့ကြသလား။
      • I do my homework every night. ကျွန်တော်သည် အိမ်စာကို ညစဥ် လုပ်သည်။
  • Tense
    • Simple Present Tense (Subject + Present Tense Verb)
      • It jumps. ၎င်း ခုန်သည်။
      • They go. သူတို့ သွားကြသည်။
    • Present Continuous Tense (Subject + am, is, are Verb-ing)
      • I am working. ကျွန်တော်သည် အလုပ်လုပ်နေသည်။
    • Simple Past Tense (Subject + Past Tense Verb)
      • She ran. သူမသည် ပြေးခဲ့သည်။
    • Future Tense (Subject + will + Present Tense Verb)
      • He will run. သူသည် ပြေးလိမ့်မည်။
  • The Adverb:  Kinds of Adverbs
    • Simple Adverbs to express Manner, Place, Time, Frequency, Degree
      • I know him quite well. ကျွန်တော် သူ့ကို အတော်ကောင်းစွာ သိသည်။
      • This question is too hard. ဤမေးခွန်သည် အလွန်ခက်သည်။
    • Interrogative Adverbs
      • Time (အချိန်): When will you go to Mandalay? သင် မန္တလေးသို့ ဘယ်တော့ သွားမလဲ။
      • Place (နေရာ): Where did you go? သင် ဘယ်ကို သွားခဲသလဲ။
      • Reason (အကြောင်းပြချက်): Why are you happy? သင် ဘာကြောင့် ပျော်ရွှင်သလဲ။
      • Manner (ဘယ်လို): How do you go to school? သင် ဘယ်လို ကျောင်းတက်သလဲ။
      • Quantity (အရေအတွက်): How much water do you want? သင် ရေ ဘယ်လောက်များများ လိုချင်သလဲ။
      • Distance (အကွာအဝေး): How far is the school from your house? ကျောင်းသည် သင့်အိမ်မှ ဘယ်လောက် ဝေးသလဲ။
      • Frequency (အကြိမ်): How often do you play tennis? သင် တင်းနစ်ကို အကြိမ် ဘယ်လောက်များများ ကစားသလဲ။
    • Relative Adverbs
      • Time (အချိန်): Bhante skipped this one.
      • Place (နေရာ):
        • He will go to the house. His friend lives there. သူသည် အိမ်သို့ သွားလိမ့်မည်။ သူ၏ သူငယ်ချင်းသည် ဟိုမှာ နေသည်။
        • He will go to the house where his friend lives. သူသည် သူ၏သူငယ်ချင်း နေသော အိမ်သို့ သွားလိမ့်မည်။
      • Reason (အကြောင်းပြချက်):
        • I don’t know the reason. He is angry for that reason. ကျွန်တော်သည် ထိုအကြောင်းကို မသိပါ။ သူသည် ထိုအကြောင်းကြောင့် စိတ်ဆိုးသည်။
        • I don’t know the reason why he is angry. ကျွန်တော်သည် သူစိတ်ဆိုးသော အကြောင်းကို မသိပါ။
